The State Religious Affairs Bureau has begun an investigation into a "health regimen master." Recent media reports have exposed that an abbot of a Taoist temple in Chongqing named Li Yi, lied about his resume and faked so-called miracles.

This is a video clip of a 2009 television show with Li Yi talking about his health regimen.

As the abbot of the Shaolong Temple in Chongqing, Li Yi was once described by some as a master of health regimen and culture, and even a "living spirit." He claimed to have 30-thousand disciples.

It was said that he converted to Taoism at the age of 3, and he could breath through his heels and open the human skull with his spiritual power. The wildest of his claims was a promise he could cure cancer.

Using such fame, Li opened expensive seminars and classes to teach his health regimen. Some of the classes charged over 9,000-yuan.

But the expensive tuition did not discourage followers. Even quite a few celebrities from the entertainment and business circles paid respect to the person.

However, his story became complicated after several media reports questioned his background and miracles.

A media investigation showed that Li Yi is not from a Taoist family and did not convert to Taoism when he was 3. The Chongqing Religious Bureau says Li received Taoism certification in 2000.

Li's website claims that he has earned many academic honors while teaching at elite universities in Beijing, Shanghai and Cambridge. Most of this information has proved untrue.

In 1997, Li practiced an underwater surviving skill on a TV show in which he held his breath under water for over 2 hours. His temple website also bragged about this skill. A recently exposed video clip showed that Li was in a glass box filled with air which was placed in another glass tank filled with water. The local religious bureau has demanded Li admit his deceit.

Li Yi has refused any visitors since the exposure.

His disciples say Li will undergo closed-door practice indefinitely during which he will not talk or receive any visitors.
