The death toll from the massive landslide in Zhouqu County of Northwest China's Gansu Province has risen to 1,364 people. Another 401 people remain missing. The county has been struck with a bout of torrential rain since Wednesday.

The rain lasted for over 15 hours, and has complicated the rescue work in the landslide hit county. People in relocation areas have sealed their tents to keep out the new flood waters. The precipitation has also raised the water level of the main local river. Rescue teams have been working all day to clear the debris in the river.
