Four naval cadets from Australia and New Zealand have been traveling from Auckland to Sydney on naval ships from China. They're the first Western cadets to ever board a Chinese military vessel, and train with the country's future sailors. CCTV reporter, Wang Guan, filed this report from the deck.

CCTV reporter Wang Guan said, "This is training vessel Zhenghe. This is their dorm and just follow me."

When we walked into this room with nine beds, we felt like walking into a college dormitory, but with much more order.

No special treatment for these western cadets, as Troy is showing us his hard berth and pillow. Certainly not the most comfortable sleeping quarters one can expect, but these young men have been quite adaptive.

But the real test is not food, it's the tightly scheduled classes everyday.

These western cadets are in the first or second year in their military academies back home. They had more multi-disciplinary education than hands-on experience.

So for most of them, Zhenghe vessel is a big classroom where they study sailing and navigation, and have practical application soon after. It's also a chance to compare notes with their Chinese colleagues.
