Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman, , has criticized Japanese Foreign Minister, Seiji Maehara, for his comments on Beijing's earlier reaction to the Diaoyu Islands dispute.

Ma says China is shocked that a country's Foreign Minister could make such remarks. He added it was in the common interest of both countries to improve and develop Sino-Japanese relations.

A series of conflicts have followed Japan's illegal detention of a Chinese trawler captain near the sensitive territory. Japan has threatened to release its video footage of the collision between a Chinese fishing boat and Japanese Coast guard vessel.
