Severe winter drought continues to wreak havoc in north China. The State Flood Control and Drought Relief Headquarters says more than five million hectares of crops are suffering from lack of irrigation.

And more than two and a half million people are facing a drinking water shortage. The country's wheat production hub in Shandong and Henan provinces is among the hardest hit. The weather bureau forecasts little rain in February and March, which could turn the current drought into a fatal blow to the region's agriculture.
