China is about to send another orbiter into space, as part of the country's Beidou satellite navigation and positioning network.

The latest orbiter will join seven other satellites in orbit, following the last launch nearly four months ago.

The Xichang Satellite Launch Center in southwest Sichuan province says the orbiter will be launched in the coming days.

The Beidou navigation system will eventually consist of 35 satellites. It's hoped it will offer a service to customers in the Asia-Pacific region by 2012. The global system is expected to be finished by 2020.
