Nearly one year ago, a two members of a family of four were killed in a drunk driving accident in Beijing.

The driver was recently charged with endangering public security by dangerous methods by the Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court. Now, we take a look at how the family is dealing with the effects of the accident, one year on.

Until May 9, 2010, this was a happy family: a father, mother and two daughters. The parents were taking their youngest daughter to hospital after she complained of stomach pains. At 5:36, as their white Fiat waited at the traffic lights, a black Infiniti suddenly crashed into them at high speed. The Fiat was smashed aside, and the Infiniti drove on, colliding with a bus. After the accident, there was no sign of the driver.

Policeman, said, "The investigation shows that the Infiniti driver ran from the scene instead of calling the police."

Of the three vehicles suffering damage in the accident, the white Fiat was in the worst condition. The car had been crushed. The father, Chen Weining, and Daughter, Zhuzhu, suffered diffuse intra-cranial injuries, and the Mother, Wang Hui had bone fractures in many parts of her body. The father died the next day. The daughter died nine days later. The mother survived but she continues to suffer from the lingering effects of her injuries.

The driver responsible was caught ten hours later.

Chen Jia, Driver in Charge, said, "I went on to collide with the bus. I had no idea of how serious the Fiat was hit. I lost my phone and I couldn't call the police. I guess I was going at 80 or 90 kilometers per hour."

The speed limit on that road was 70 km/h. And investigations showed that the driver, in his drunken state, was going over 110 km. He was accused of both drunk driving, and violation of traffic regulations. So far, he has been charged with endangering public security by dangerous methods by the Beijing Second Intermediate People's Court. Yet for the family of the deceased, the trauma may take a long time to over come.

Wang Hui, Wife, said, "Sometimes I tell myself that he is on business abroad, just for a very long time. No messages or calls from him just mean the trip is longer than usual. I do it to fool myself, to ease the pain a little."

Wang Hui doesn't want to think about the accident, entrusting a friend to deal with matters arising from it. She hopes to move on from the tragedy and focus her energies on taking care of her remaining daughter.
