In recent auctions, ancient art pieces have been hitting new record prices. But in this industry, an open secret prevails that items recorded by Shiqu Treasure will probably be bought at a high price.

Shiqu Teasure is a list of the emperors' personal collection during the Qianlong and Jiaqing reigns in the Qing Dynasty. The book is highly valued as a royal collection, and the items recorded are hotly sought after in the current art market. Last fall, a listed item reached more than 60 million yuan, and in this year's spring auction, another item was traded at a similar price. It is being viewed more and more by prospective investors as an unofficial guidebook. But experts say people should not exaggerate it as an investment guide and instead treat it objectively and cautiously.

Yang Danxia, Researcher of The Palace Museum

Yang Danxia, Researcher of The Palace Museum said "The book recorded very precious works. But some items recorded proved to be fake. So it is just a common book of a collection list except that it is a royal one. We do not have to idolize it."

Professor Yu Ding, Central Academy of Fine Arts said "The book just reflects the royal tastes and preferences, not that for the whole society. It has no such authority in academic studies. Only the market capitalizes on it to push up the prices of some items."
