Many provinces have been unable to shake off the drought that has been lasting for months. The good news is the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River will see rainfall in the coming days.

Rain is in the forecast starting on Friday for the provinces of Hubei, Hunan, Jiangxi, Jiangsu and Anhui, according to China's meteorological bureau. Residents are warned to take precautionary measures against flooding and landslides. However, this round of the upcoming storm front will not totally ease the dry weather along the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River.

From March to May, rainfall in those regions was reduced by more than 50-percent, while the temperature was 0.7 degrees Celsius higher than average. The drought has caused major losses to China's agriculture and fishing industries.
