This week saw severe flooding in south China. CCTV reporter Zhang Shuo reviews some of the breathtaking moments in the past week.

On June 3rd heavy rain began to fall on the province of Guizhou in southwest China. The rain was welcomed, but then wouldn't stop. More than 60 thousand people had to leave their homes and 200,000 were affected.

The flooding submerge everything, many, like this family, desperately tried to find safety.

Meanwhile, rescue teams are trying their best to mitigate damage, but it is slow going.

Zhang Jianfeng, director of local rescue team, said, “Conditions of local residents are currently fine, but the biggest challenge now is to return the county to normal. It's really difficult.”

The situation worsened in Central China's Hubei and Hunan on Thursday as the two provinces suffered hard rain.

Tongcheng county was hardest hit, the entire region was drowned by daybreak Friday. Water was more than two meters deep, paralyzing traffic and cutting off power supplies.

This is 70-year-old Xiong Xingtian's house. She was trapped in her collapsing home all night. The rescue team hasn't yet come, so it's was up to her neighbors to pull her to safety.

Hand in hand, these anonymous heroes finally make it and dragging the lady to a safe place.

Breathtaking and moving moments like this are not rare in disasters. Though the flood may have destroyed their homes, the victims say they are all confident about the future.
