Celebrities attend Shanghai Film Festival

Glitz and glamour were on full show in China's commercial capital of Shanghai on Saturday evening. The night marked the opening of the 14th Shanghai International Film Festival.

Chinese A-list actors and actresses were joined by American film stars on the red carpet, ahead of the opening of the Shanghai International Film Festival.

Together they wowed the crowds, who braved heavy rain to catch a glimpse of their favorite celebrities.

Ren Hsien Chi, a Taiwan actor, said, "I've been attending the film festival for many years. I never get bored. With this much support, it will definitely become the Oscar of the Orient."

The film festival opened with a gala ceremony at the Shanghai Grand Theatre. More than 300 local and international celebrities will grace the festival.

Sixteen films from across the globe will be competing for the Golden Goblet, awarded to the best film. The winner will be chosen by a star-studded jury panel.

At a news conference earlier on Saturday, the Hollywood stars shared the secrets to their acting success with the Chinese crowd.

Matt Dillon, an American actor, said, "I had a wonderful experience as a director. It was very fulfilling creatively. I like the experience of working with actors, storytelling. I think in a way I must say it was a more enriching experience than directing. But I am an actor, and I feel very comfortable in that role."

The 14th edition of the Shanghai International Film Festival runs from June 11th to the 19th.

It will feature more than 200 Chinese and international films in 24 cinemas across the city.
