New cross-strait policies favor Taiwan

The Chinese mainland has announced a series of new policies at the on-going Straits Forum aimed at boosting Taiwan's economy.

The first plan is to allow residents of selected cities on the Chinese mainland to visit Taiwan as individual tourists from June 28th. The cities include Beijing, Shanghai and Xiamen. Fujian residents will be able to visit the islands of Kinmen, Matsu and Penghu in the Taiwan Strait. Charges for endorsing passports for Taiwan residents will also be lowered by 50 percent. This measure will start on July 1st to facilitate entry and exit procedures.

Wang Yi is visiting the temple fair with Taiwan feature at the Zhongshan Road of
Xiamen city.

The head of the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, Wang Yi says the mainland will encourage its enterprises to purchase more farm products from Taiwan in order to help its export-oriented economy.
