China, Israel to boost military ties

China's Defense Minister, Liang Guanglie, says China is willing to further strengthen military cooperation with Israel. Monday's remarks came during his talks with the visiting Israeli Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister, Ehud Barak in Beijing.

During the meeting, Liang said China values relations with Israel, and is ready to widen and strengthen pragmatic military exchanges and cooperation. Barak echoed Liang's comments, adding that he hopes the two sides can expand common ground, and learn more from each other.

He also pledged to boost cooperation between the two armies, and make joint efforts with China, for a better and deeper military ties. Barak then met with the PLA Chief of General Staff, General Chen Bingde. Both officials hailed progress in cooperation, and exchanged views on international and regional security issues.

China and Israel established diplomatic ties 19 years ago. This is the first visit to Beijing by an Israeli Defense Minister in a decade.
