Xi calls for ethnic unity while visiting Jokhang Temple

Chinese Vice President, Xi Jinping, has visited the Jokhang Temple in Lhasa, capital of southwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region. In a speech delivered at the temple, he thanked Tibetan Buddhists for their contributions to the region.

Xi Jinping noted that Tibet has been an inalienable part of China since ancient times and people from religious circles have helped maintain social stability, national integrity and ethnic unity.

Xi Jinping called for Tibetan Buddhists to carry on the patriotic spirit and strive for Tibet's development and improvement of people's livelihood. He also emphasized that they should take guard and fight against separatists.

Xi Jinping made the remarks a day after he addressed a mass rally in Lhasa to mark the 60th anniversary of the peaceful liberation of Tibet.
