Shanghai FINA World Aquatic Championships closes

The World Aquatic Championships in Shanghai have come to an end.

The two-week tournament saw athletes compete in five aquatics disciplines, including swimming, water polo, diving, open water and synchronized swimming.

China came out on top in diving, earning ten gold medals and winning all events. The host nation won its first gold medal in the women's three meter synchro springboard.

In swimming, the US currently leads the medal count with 12 gold.

In synchronized swimming, Russia came out on top in the gold medal count with seven, winning all events. China made huge breakthrough here, winning six silver medals and one bronze medal, its best ever performance in the world championships.

The Chinese team has claimed 15 gold medals in the championships, ranking second after the US. In terms of total medals, China won 36 so far, ranking in first place.
