It's a cruel twist of fate when some regions could really use some water, while others have too much. Southwest China's Chongqing Municipality epitomizes how a region can be ripped apart by extreme opposites of weather.

Teachers found the playground at Baishui primary school like this after heavy rain in Kaixian County in Chongqing. One teacher said, "When we were told to come to school, we saw water all around the premises as if it was actually built on water. The water was about half a person's height deep. We were ordered to carry things found underwater into the hall."

Baishui Primary School is located near the confluence of two rivers. Heavy rain in the early hours of Tuesday caused the rivers to swell and submerge the surrounding areas with water and thick mud.

Both students and teachers are now on their summer holidays. But teachers have been called-in to do extra work to clean-up the school. The losses to the school are great. A teacher said, "The place is completely flooded. It can't be used any more."

The flood is thought to have caused an economic loss of over 200 thousand yuan's, mainly books, computers and some electrical equipment. It will still take another two days for the cleaning operations to be completed.
