Unlike the Olympics, there is no threshold for taking part in the Universiade. You can be a world champion or a total amateur. This has produced many lop-sided games and victories with huge margins. Our reporter Wang Guan was at the women's ten thousand meters final, which proved to be one such event. But as he explains, there are no losers, only winners.

This is perhaps the most grueling race of all, the women's -10 thousand meters final.

23-year-old Tayor from Kenya wanted to take home a medal, to bring joy to her country and make her family in a small in western Kenyan town proud.

But as soon as the race started, she realized she was outclassed.

For the most part, it was a solitary run.

When a Turkish athlete touched the finishing line, Tayor still had 3,000 meters to go.

Back in Tayor's home country, not many girls have access to higher education. Tayor cherishes the opportunity she had to go to college. She says she spent most of her time in the library and had no professional training before coming to Shenzhen.

14 minutes after the champion reached the finishing line, Tayor completed her race...She may not be able to win a medal but she certainly won respect from every spectator in the stadium.

At the Summer Universiade, many athletes are amateurs. It's their participation and perseverance that constantly reminds us what sport is all about.
