The recent heat wave has many Chinese doing all they can to avoid going out. But at a shipyard in East China's Leqing, Zhejiang Province, the welders have no escape.

The 35-degree plus temperature at noon is almost enough to melt the streets. Leqing in East China's Zhejiang Province has been baking in recent days. And the heat is highest in the local shipyard.

Wu Meiqiang, a welder, said, "The temperature in the cabin can reach as high as 50 degree Celsius."

Wu has been working as a welder for a couple of years. This summer, he's been in a constant sweat. And every 10 minutes, he has to come out to take a breath.

And a welder has to wear thick protective clothing. Wu Meiqiang said, "It's very easy for us to get burnt, so we need to put on more clothes, even in such a hot weather."

He says his work is the one of the most important in shipbuilding, so despite the heat, he continues to weld.
