While ConocoPhillips is embroiled in the oil leak controversy, it may face another lawsuit from scallop breeders in Hebei's Laoting county. A vast number of scallops died here recently and breeders suspect they died from pollution caused by the oil leak in Bohai Bay.

Oil on the seashore.

A large amount of oil-like materials have been washed up on the Lao Migou beach in Laoting County. Local scallop breeders say they have been here for a while.

Liu Zhancheng, a scallop breeder at Laoting county, said, "It has been two months since we found this material on the sand, the amount became much more from mid-July. Sunshine can't melt them down and the tide can't wash them away. "

We could only ask a researcher from the State Oceanic Administration about what the solid materials were when they came here to take samples.

another lawsuit from scallop breeders in Hebei's Laoting county.

Zheng Li, researcher of State Oceanic Administration, said, "We'll analyze the ingredients of the material. See if it is made from the main ingredients of fuel oil or crude oil."

He said they would get the results about what exactly the material is in three days time.

Breeders say they will use their rights to sue ConocoPhillips China if the results show their scallops died from ocean pollution caused by oil leak.
