During the last two months, over 1 thousand blind people in Beijing have visited the newly reconstructed China Braille Library. It's the only library of its kind that's sponsored by the Chinese government. And unlike the old times, the new library has brought the blind some new fun.

Listening to books, that's how the blind are enjoying the magic of literature here in Beijing. Since the library reopened in June, this kind of lecture has been held every week. And the blind are very excited to listen to the lecture.

Li Jun is a fan of public poetry recitals. This is his first time in the new library. He thinks it's not only larger than the old one, but also much more engaging than before. Li Jun said, “I think the new library is much better than the old one. I really enjoy being here.”

The weekly lecture covers various areas, like literature, public recitals and music. But the old way of reading is still popular. Li Peng is a masseur who still maintains a little of his sight. For people like him, the library prepares voice system to help him read the words on the screen. Li Peng said, "I find this way of reading very convenient. I'd almost be happy to make here my second bedroom."

In the new library, you can also read by touching. Through their hand, the blind can feel the figures and tactile sensations of the items. The library is also extending their service beyond of Beijing. They've started mailing services to blind people in other parts of the country. So far, 4 thousand blind people from outside the city have borrowed books from the library.
