China expresses deepest condolences on Kim Jong Il's death

DPRK state television announced the death of Kim Jong Il, the leader of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea earlier today. The Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the top legislative body, the State council, and the Central Committee of China’s Military Committee have, together, sent their deepest condolences.

China spoke of Kim Jong Il as the "great leader" of the DPRK, and its close friend. It hopes the DPRK will continue working to build a strong socialist nation, seeking peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula under the new leadership of Kim Jong Un, the son of late Kim Jong Il. China also believed its friendship with the neighboring country will be further developed.

The end of an era - The news came in tears. According to the report, Kim Jong Il passed away on Saturday following a heart attack on a train during a field inspection.

The DPRK news agency shows pictures of crowds in grief. As a long time friend, China is also feeling the pain.

Ma Zhaoxu, spokesperson of Chinese Foreign Ministry, said, "We’re shocked to learn of the unfortunate passing of the DPRK leader Kim Jong Il, and we express our grief about this and extend our condolences to the people of DPRK. Kim Jong Il, was a great leader for the people of the DPRK, and a close friend of the Chinese people. "

Emotions are not running high in streets of Beijing. Yet, some are shocked by the news. This man said he was sorry to hear about Kim’s death. And this girl hopes the best for the people there. Such wishes will also be given to bilateral ties between China and its neighbour.
