Chinese Vice Premier, Li Keqiang, has called for more efforts in ecological and environmental protection. This, as the country strives to restructure the economy and improve people’s livelihoods. The message was sent during a national meeting held every five years where China plans environment policies.

A place where people and nature can coexist in harmony.

China says, that could be reached through reaching consensus.

During the two-day environmental meeting, a national-level plan will be made for the coming five years. As well, provincial governors and heads of state-owned power plants and petroleum giants are also expected to give written promises.

This time, they will be held accountable for building almost 12-hundred new sewage treatment plants, and producing four hundred gigawatts of cleaner thermal power.

China takes environmental protection seriously. This meeting is highest level in the country and has been held every five years since 1976.

Each time, it mapped out guidelines for environmental work for the following five years. Assessments across the country should help guarantee that these tasks are fulfilled.

According to the most recent assessment report, China has made breakthroughs in pollution treatment and emission reductions. Sulfur dioxide emissions in 2008 for example, dropped by 9 percent compared to 2005. What’s more, some of the most polluting industries have also undergone reform to become greener.
