The plenary session of the Chinese Communist party’s anti-corruption body has now ended.

The General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee, President Hu Jintao, delivered a speech on Monday calling for a strict implementation of Party discipline during elections of Party committees at all levels, and urged to keep what he called the purity of the Party spirit.

Hu said the CPC should tighten supervision on the whole procedure of selecting and promoting officials and improve transparency. In a communiqué released today, the anti-corruption body stressed that corruption in China is still "severe," and cannot be eradicated in the short term. But they did promise to focus on further educating and supervising party leaders at all levels.
