The sale of local chickens will resume from January 12th and the response level downgraded. That’s according to the director of the Food and Health Department, York Chow, who says Hong Kong will continue to import live chickens from the Chinese mainland.

He also said staff from the the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department have inspected all thirty local farms and over 45-hundred chickens have tested negative for the H5N1 virus. This has led to the response level being lowered from "serious " to "alert."

The sales and imports of live chickens in Hong Kong were suspended after a dead bird was found to be infected with the H5N1 virus last month.
