Turning to the northwestern province of Gansu where a landslide in Youngjing county has swept two vehicles into a river. 40 rescuers have found a car but no casualties.

120 thousand cubic meters of soft yellow soil was displaced by the landslide, pushing two cars down to the Yellow River.

At lunchtime Wednesday, the rescue team began its search for the missing vehicles. Three hours later, they found a black Santana in the river. But the situation is difficult. 20 centimetre thick mud and a rapid current has delayed the dredging process.

Lu Xuecai, Manager of Underwater Rescue Company, said "The car was buried 20 centimetres under mud and the current in the river is rapid. It took us some time to find a proper point before dragging it out of the water."

However, the rescuers did not find any passengers.

Lu Xuecai, Manager of Underwater Rescue Company, said "Our rescuers only found the wreck but no one in the water. We believe the car is badly damaged by the impact of the land collapse."

The team leader says they are now still looking for another red mini van, which, although forced into the river together with the Santana, remains missing.

Lu Xuecai, Manager of Underwater Rescue Company, said "We’ll continue to search for the mini van, and we’ll do it on a larger scale if necessary."

Police have cordoned off the area hit by the landslide as the search continues.
