Fresh data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that China’s consumer price index rose 4.5% in January, year on year, a three-month high marking the end of the five straight months of decline.

The Consumer Price Index, the main gauge of inflation, rose to 4.5 percent on a yearly basis in January. Food prices climbed ten and a half percent, while non-food prices gained 1.8 percent. The cost of pork, one of the major contributors to CPI rises, rose by a quarter in January.

CPI rose by 4.1% last December, the last month of five straight months of decline and the lowest point in 15 months. This morning’s figure halted that downward trend. But experts say the impact will fade and the inflation rate will continue to ease next quarter.

The producer price index, the main gauge of inflation at a wholesale level, gained an annal 0.7%. That’s down from 1.7% last December and the lowest level in 26 months.
