For more on China-US relations, we’re joined by Xie Tao, Associate Professor at the American Studies Center of The Beijing Foreign Studies University. Good Evening Professor,

Q1: Nixon’s visit to China 40 years ago certainly pushed relations between China and the US quite a way forward, especially after the two signed the "Three Joint Communiqués." But there are still some problems left unresolved that are preventing the countries from fully trusting each other, aren’t there?

Q2: And we know that table tennis players from China and the US had carried on exchanged visits a year before Nixon’s trop to China, and since then "Ping-Pong diplomacy” is frequently brought up as an example of successful of public diplomacy. And just a few days ago we saw Vice President Xi Jinping attend an NBA game during his US trip. Do you think the so-called public diplomacy is an ice-breaking tactic during times of souring relationships between the nations?

Q3: 40 years on, bilateral relations have made a great deal of progress, but we’ve also noticed that there are still frequent disputes between Beijing and Washington. What issues keep coming up?
