US President Barack Obama has announced the creation of the Interagency Trade Enforcement Center. The new office will coordinate trade enforcement activity across several US government agencies. This new bureau is meant to make sure China and others play by the same rules.

Barack Obama, President of United States, said, "...Set up a Trade Enforcement Unit...the countries around the world including the countries like China..."

Some US experts are saying that this is an election year issue meant to make the President appear tough on China. Obama has accused the country of lavishing subsidies on homegrown companies and not doing enough to stop counterfeiting and IP infringement. But experts in China note that the question of whether the US is playing its own rules. They have criticized Washington for subsidizing the green energy and auto industries. But Li Yong from the China Association of International Trade says the relationship has actually been quite healthy.

Li Yong, Deputy Secretary General of China Association of Int'l Trade, said, "The trade relation between China and US in the past ten years, has been generally healthy and good. Even though China enjoys a surplus. But China is enjoying all the efforts to achieve balance."

Li Yong suggested that the trade enforcement office would not help America to revive its economy, but only cause further friction. And he said Americans should tackle the root cause of its economic decline, and not simply target others.

"If you relate this to other strategies of the United States in Asia Pacific, it is not difficult to see this is a step forward to economically contain China." Li Yong said.

Many experts are now saying that China is at a critical stage, and that it can not only focus on commodity trade and technological competition, but has to raise its voice in international policy-making as well.

"The US government politisized economic trade issues. And this caused worries within the trade industry. China and US should solve the issue through dialogue. Pressuring China may not be the best way to solve America’s own economic decline. Liu Yang, CCTV, Beijing."
