Interview: Obstacles in pushing forward integration of urban and rural areas

03-05-2012 23:49 BJT

Q1: After attracting the labor-intensive factories, will the central and west region walk on the same path of sacrificing the environment for economic growth that the east region used to take? The dichotomy of the urban and rural areas decides that the development of urban areas outweigh that of the rural areas, which obstructs the sustainable development. What are the obstacles in pushing forward the integration of urban and rural areas?

Q2: In Premier Wen Jiabao’s report the urbanization rate in 2011 was over 50% percent, marking a historical point in the transformation of social structure. What’s your interpretation of this figure?
