China endures soaring temperatures with summer beginning

Saturday marks the beginning of summer in the Chinese lunar calendar. And many residents across the country have already felt the effects of the hot weather.

In Beijing, temperatures soared to 32 degrees Celsius on Friday, breaking a thirty year record. Beijing residents donned short-sleeves shirts and skirts to welcome the sudden heat. In East China's Shandong Province, temperatures topped 30 degrees Celsius. South China's Guangdong Province also saw temperatures reach 35 degrees Celsius on Friday. Residents are advised to take precautions against heat stroke.

Meanwhile, a tornado hit Jiangmen City in Guangdong on Friday, severely damaging a factory. In the coming five days, the temperature across the country is expected to be about 2 degrees Celsius above the average level of the past three decades, while mild rain is likely to hit parts of the middle and Northeast.
