Heavy rains have continued to fall in south China, triggering floods and causing hundreds of thousands of people to be relocated.

Several cracks have appeared on the road in the town of Zhouxi in Guizhou province, causing more than 180 local residents to be relocated.

The cracks were caused by a mudslide that came after the heavy rains in recent days. The longest one is 300 meters and is expanding at 1.8 mm per hour. Experts say loose soil may trigger disasters at any time if there is rainfall again.

Xu Liang, head of Zhouxi Town, Kaili City, said, "We have set up tents for the relocated residents. Each of the households has been given one thousand yuan for daily expenses and 30 kilograms of rice during the relocation period."

In neighboring Hunan Province, heavy rains have swelled rivers and lakes. The water level of the Xiangjiang River has continued to rise. By Thursday morning, traffic on the No. 318 national highway was disrupted by rain-triggered landslides.

It is also the same picture in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Rain-triggered floods have swept 32 counties in nine cities in the Region over the last few days. Farmlands and houses were inundated by floods, bringing huge economic losses to the local people.

"Most of my crops were inundated by the floods. All we can do now is pray for the rain to stop so that we can plant our crops again." A panel of experts has been sent to help local farmers save their inundated farmlands, and to minimize their losses.

The National Disaster Reduction Centre has issued a four-tiered warning system as a new round of rainstorms is approaching in the next three days.
