Four killed in Southwest China quake

A magnitude 5.7 earthquake has hit Ning Lang county in Yunnan province and Yanyuan county in Sichuan province. It struck at around four o’clock on Sunday afternoon. So far at least 4 people have been killed along with 106 injured of which 20 are in serious condition.

The two counties are located near the boarder of Yunnan and Sichuan provinces. More than 20,000 people are being affected and 3 and a half thousand houses have collapsed in the disaster.

More than 1200 people have joined in the rescue work. Most of them are from the local military. Relief supplies meanwhile have been sent to Ning Lang county and Yanyuan county.

As of now the area remains unstable. More than 50 aftershocks have struck since the quake.
