It's July, just a month after the nation's high school students took the Gaokao, or college entrance examinations, and now it's time for universities and colleges across the nation to start their admissions process. This is a crucial moment for students, parents and schools hoping for the best results. CCTV reporter Li Kefu takes a look at how procedures are conducted at Peking University and Tsinghua University in Beijing.

Two of the country's best universities started their admissions procedures today. Gaokao scores are the key standard for admission to universities. For students in Beijing, required Gaokao scores for Peking and Tsinghua University range from 615 to 656, depending on what they will major in.

Meanwhile, the two universities have already finished their decisions on who will be admitted from Shanghai. The 116 top scorers on the Gaokao, were admitted by Peking University and 100 for Tsinghua University. All the students are undoubtedly some of the best in the country but this time, schools didn't target the "Zhuang Yuan", or the one who got the top score, like they used to before.

Qin Chunhua, Director of Admissions Office, PKU, said, "Starting this year, Peking University didn't promote the so called "Zhuang Yuan" in Gaokao. We also devoted more respect to the majors the students chose and we will focus on developing their potential."

Currently Peking University and Tsinghua University are also giving special admissions quotas to students from less developed areas in the country, such as the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Gausu province.
