In the years after Hong Kong's return to China, the number of students from the Chinese mainland going to Hong Kong has continued to increase. This year mainland students admitted to one of the top universities for undergraduate studies in Hong Kong has hit a record high again. Full Story>>

For more on college enrollment we're joined by Professor Cheng Jieming. He is the Chair Professor of Education at the University of Hong Kong. And we also have Doctor Wang Yan. She is the director of the international exchange department at the National Institute of Education Sciences. Good to have you with us today.

Q1: Universities and Colleges in Hong Kong have taken many top students from the mainland this year. Wang Yan, you went to college in Hong Kong. Tell us your feelings. Why are universities and colleges in Hong Kong favored by mainland students?

Q2: Professor Cheng, for these top students, why do you think they choose to study in Hong Kong instead of the best universities in the mainland, like Tsinghua and Peking Universities? And what are mainland universities’ advantages in winning students?

Q3: When mainland students arrive in Hong Kong, there is usually a culture shock for them. When they finally get used to life there, some of them choose to come back to the mainland, and experience another culture shock. This won't be a problem students will face if they are educated in the mainland. Do you think high school students should consider this before they make up their mind?
