07-25-2012 09:29 BJT

Typhoon Vicente whipped through Guangdong and Hainan provinces on Monday evening and Tuesday, bringing strong winds and torrential rain. It is the eighth tropical storm this year.

For the residents of Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai City, it was a night that no one dared to sleep.

If they did, they might wake up to find themselves surrounded by water in the middle of the night.

When she was rescued, she complained about the property management.

Rescuers said the reason for flood in the district is its low-lying location.

Housing wasn’t the only thing damaged by the typhoon.

Fierce winds and downpours felled trees and billboards along the roads.

Gardener of Xiangzhou District of Zhuhai said, There are more than a hundred trees in this road, most of them are big ones. We started to clear the road at ten and didn’t stop working. We have to get transport working again in the main streets.

Typhoon Vicente is now moving northwest at a speed of around 20 km per hour. Strong rainfall is expected to hit most areas of Guangdong Province.
