Strong winds. Heavy rains. Typhoon Haikui made a direct hit on Zhejiang’s Xiangshan County early Wednesday morning. The rainfall accumulated to as much as 400 millimeters.

Yin Zhongwang,Xiangshan, Zhejiang Province: ”I am now standing in Xiangshan County, Zhejiang Province. The typhoon made landfall just near here and has left a big impact. The wind is still blowing strongly with a windscale of at least a level 6. The rain is really heavy. Some farmland has been flooded. It’s estimated that heavy rainfall will last in East China for three to four days.”

Overnight, the typhoon left Xiangshan County and a new day has come. In the county, people have resumed their normal life. But in its rural areas, the aftermath of the typhoon is severe for many. Zhu Shengjie is living by fish breeding and poultry raising, but the typhoon will makes him a hard life.

Zhu Shengjie, Farmer: "All my shrimps have been flooded and the total damage is 300 thousand yuan. I cultivated nearly one thousand ducks, but there are only one-sixth left after the typhoon. I don’t have insurance for that. "

Zhang Qifeng is a 50-year-old farmer who grows rice to support his family.

Zhang Qifeng, Farmer: “ My paddy fields are all soaked by the flood. I lost one million yuan. If the floodwater recedes a little tomorrow, there might be less damage. But I think it will last for days.”

Yin Zhongwang, Xiangshan, Zhejiang Province: After a full day of heavy rains brought by typhoon Haikui, the weather has returned to normal in Xiangshan County. The sun came out. But you can see, many crop fields have been flooded. The damage is huge. There is a lot of work to do for local farmers as well as the authorities.
