Paragliding championship wraps up in Xinjiang

The 2012 China Paragliding championship contest came to an end Saturday morning in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous region. Sixteen teams and 66 athletes took part in the national competition.

The event was held at Kanas lake in Northwest China, where its natural condition is ideal for paragliding. Invented in 1894 in the French Alps, paragliding is a popular adventure sport in the Western world.

In China, this particular sports is just booming. Now, there are over 50 registered paragliding clubs in China, and more than four thousand people have their license to practice the sport.
