For some in China, updating the Weibo account, or the microblog is an important part of the day. So far, China has the world’s largest number of microbloggers. That’s according to a report quoted in the China Internet Network Information Center, published annually by the Social Sciences Academic Press.

The report says that as of June this year about 274 million Chinese people had microblog accounts. The number of Internet users in China rose to 538 million by the end of June, meaning that four out of ten Chinese regularly access the Internet. It’s estimated that by 2015, China will have more than 800 million internet users, with one quarter of those in the countryside. Meanwhile, instant messaging is also popular, with about 415 million Chinese using instant messaging applications.
