Video: Chinese filmmakers boycott Tokyo Film Festival

10-22-2012 20:48 BJT

Chinese film makers and stars from the Chinese mainland, Taiwan and Hong Kong are skipping the 25th Tokyo International Film Festival that started Saturday, to protest against Japan’s purchasing of China’s Diaoyu Islands.

Japan’s Broadcasting Corporation NHK says, the China-Japan dispute over the Diaoyu Islands has cast a shadow over the festival. Red carpets for the opening ceremony saw mostly local stars with a few from Europe. The producers of the nominated Chinese film "Arrow Penetrating the Heart" say they have asked to withdraw their film several times, but have been rejected by the organizing committee.

But still, they are not sending any stars to the festival. According to the committee, around 300 films will be played during the festival.
