Video: "Pambassador" hopefuls compete

11-01-2012 21:50 BJT

The 2012 Chengdu Global Pambassador finals are underway in southwest China’s Sichuan Province. Sixteen panda enthusiasts from eleven countries will compete to become one of three ambassadors to raise awareness of the plight of the endangered panda.

When fans get together, they discuss their idols. When panda enthusiasts get together, they discuss bamboo! The first test of the 2012 Chengdu Global Pambassador finals is to distinguish the different types of bamboo.

I think pictures are easier for me to remember. So I draw them on my notebook.

Besides bamboo, captive pandas also eat a special type of bread to stay fit and well. So the contestants have also been doing a spot of baking.

It’s quite dry. It tastes natural. Luckily, the bread was popular among the pandas.

After a decent meal, pandas also need physical and mental stimulation. Toys are essential part of this.

And that’s what the third test is all about.

The panda sits on the ground. They must sit to get the lower one. They have to stand up to get the food higher up. It will be a challenge to get their food and, I guess, entertainment as well.

The top three 2012 Global Pambassadors will join a Global Conservation Tour in 2013. They’ll visit cities all over the world, educating communities on the importance of panda conservation.
