China's first aircraft carrier, the "Liaoning", has successfully completed a 37-day-long scientific and training mission in the South China Sea, and returned to its home port in Qingdao in east China's Shandong Province.

China's aircraft carrier "Liaoning" has returned to its home port in Qingdao in east
China’s Shandong Province, after finishing about 40 days' scheduled scientific and
training mission in the South China Sea.

This is the first time the carrier has conducted a cross-sea training voyage since it was commissioned into the People’s Liberation Army Navy in September 2012.

The Liaoning and its crew carried out a series of tests and training drills, including landings and take-offs by various aircraft, including the J-15 carrier-borne fighter jet.

According to the Liaoning’s captain, Zhang Zheng, the ship’s latest mission in the South China Sea was part of its regular training. The captain added that long cross-sea voyages are necessary to test and develop equipment and troop readiness under different conditions.
