03-07-2014 21:18 BJT Special Report: 2014 NPC & CPPCC Sessions |

CCTV NEWS conducted a survey asking China's citizens which approach should we use in combating pollution? Bigger reward or more severe punishment?

Almost all respondents are pro severe punishment...this respondent says the current punishments are too light, he suggests 200 percent of the polluters total annual tax as pollution fine.

Another respondent believes the function of the law but has doubt over the implementation and supervision of the law.

Besides strengthen the punishment, emphasis should also be put on joint actions between the polluted areas, this respondent says, for example, smog in Beijing is partly from the heavy industries in neighboring Hebei.

But another says nothing else can meet the desire on GDP growth of local officials. He expects the government to accept the expense of economic growth in exchange for environmental protection.
