Live cross: Western misconceptions of China

03-09-2014 21:03 BJT Special Report: 2014 NPC & CPPCC Sessions |

For more information, we now cross over to Professor Gustaaf Geeraerts from Brussels. He is the Director of Brussels Institute of Contemporary China Studies.

1 China has developed a unique political system, very different from the western "separation of power" system. How do you understand China's political supervision mechanism? Do you think it is well understood by the Europeans?

2 We're told that every time you hear Europeans' misconception of China, you advise them to book a flight to the country and stay here at least for three days. What sort of misconceptions are common in Europe? Do any of them take your advice and visit China?

3. As an expert on Chinese affairs, you have been visited China many times. From your personal perspective, do you think ordinary Chinese citizens have sufficient political participation?
