On the expo calendar, it says Thursday is Israel Pavilion Day. The "Seashell," as it has become known, is expecting loads of visitors, and has planned an exciting performance this evening to mark the occasion. So, let's take a closer look at Israel Pavilion... a special place that represents a dialogue between humanity and nature.

Israel Pavilion is located in zone 'A' of Expo Park, very close to the landmark China Pavilion. Israel's "Seashell" is made with two hugging parts... one made of stone... the other from transparent glass, implying a link between humanity and nature, the earth and sky, or past and future.

Entering the hall of the pavilion, visitors learn a piece of history about Jewish people in Shanghai. Half a century ago, as Jewish people were persecuted by Nazi Germany, the Chinese consulate to Austria, He Fengshan, signed visas for thirty thousand Jewish people. They were able to travel to Shanghai, gaining new hope for survival.

Guides of the pavilion are among those who cherish the help that the Chinese people gave the Jewish people in their time of greatest need. They now use Chinese to greet thousands of visitors every day.

Tour Guide, Israel Pavilion, said, "Three years ago, I had a dream. And today it is realized. What's it you guess? Come to China? Yes. I had another dream too, that in the Beijing Olympics China would win first place, and that was realized too."

The country's natural wonder, the Dead Sea, is introduced with a picture here, showcasing the incredible buoyancy of the sea's super salty water.

The huge photo wall leads visitors into the hall of innovation, showing the country's technical breakthrough in fields such as medicine, science, and broadcasting. For example, it shows a small capsule with a miniature camera in it that can help doctors diagnose an illness. They also showcase drip irrigation technology that can turn a desert into an oasis.

To celebrate their Pavilion Day, Israel artists will give a special evening performance headlined by its very own renowned tenor David D'or.
