The legend of the fictional libertine Don Juan has inspired a Chinese stage play of the same name for the second Dalian French Culture Week. Complete with a new makeover, Don Juan wooed an international audience on Monday night.

The original play from French playwright and comedy master Moliere is given a new face in this Chinese version. The new play is loyal to the basic storyline, but changes part of the dialogue and the stage setting to suit modern tastes.

Ning Chunyan, Director of "Don Juan", said, "Don Juan is one of the classic plays from Moliere. But the actors in this version are all speaking catchwords of the time, including a few lines from Northeast China. This show is accessible to a Chinese audience after the adaptation."

In its first run, the audience gave the play a favorable response. They said that despite being staged very simply, the actors are completely able to bring out the story with their movements and expression.
