Torch Festival is coming in Yunnan

Local authorities of Chuxiong in Yunnan province have announced that the city's 2010 Torch Festival will be held from August 4th to the 7th.

Chuxiong is mainly inhabited by the Yi ethnic minority group. The people see the tiger and fire as their totem animal and earthly element respectively; so, the Torch Festival is extremely important to the Yi people.

This year, the celebration will be centered around the demonstrations of Yi sacrificial rites, traditional costumes, and other customs. The torch parade will be the main event.

Also, during the festival, there will be an International Yi Forum, Chuxiong Tiger Culture Exhibition, Yi Ethnic Love Song Contest, and Yi Ethnic Dance Show will also be held to further promote their culture.
