Following last week's discovery, another patch of ancient bamboo slips from the Eastern Han Dynasty around 1900 years ago was found in a well in Changsha in central China's Hunan province as the city was constructing a subway.

It's mysterious why these bamboo slips were mostly intact found underground in the well. But archeologists have found answers. Firstly, in Eastern Han Dynasty, the government usually scrapped unwanted bamboo slip documents every three years and buried them underground.

However, these abandoned bamboo slips might be referred to at some later time, so they were kept intact. Secondly, this is due to Changsha's particular geography. The soil there is dense and acidic, making it difficult for water to get through. And the high water table makes the well even better sealed.
