Inkstone is a stone tool used for grinding and holding ink. It's often used in East Asian calligraphy and painting.

At the Chinese Inkstone Culture Summit held at the Expo on Thursday, organizers introduced inkstone culture to foreigners.

The tool together with the ink brush, inkstick, and paper, are the four writing implements traditionally known as the Four Treasures of the Study. For serious calligraphers and painters, a good inkstone is as important as the quality of the ink.

An inkstone will affect the quality and texture of the ink that is ground upon it.

At the summit, inkstone collectors, manufacturers and other specialists exchanged views on the protection and promotion of inkstone culture.
