Asian Art Festival enhances friendship

The final regional competition of the 6th Asian Arts Festival has concluded in China's northeastern city of Dalian. Some 300 contestants showcased their artistic talents in various fields including piano-playing, rack drums, T-stage shows and various dances.

Aimed at enhancing cultural communication among youngsters, the competition rallies a number of international participants from South Korea, the DPRK, Japan and the US. The oldest competitor is 25 years old and the youngest just 5. One contestant from the DPRK says she wants to let more people know about the culture of her country through her singing

Lila from DPRK, said, "My competition item is a song called The Flower Girl, it is a quite popular song in the DPRK, I hope people can understand more about my home country through my song "

One of the more exciting events is when a youngster displayed their above-the-age artistic skills during the competition. The youngest one, 5-year-old Chinese American Tony stunned the audience with his skillful performance on rack drums. Although young, he has already won a number of awards.

Tony, contestant, said, "If I like the song and can sing it, I can easily synchronize it with the rack drum, if I miss one rhythm, I can follow up quickly."

Another 6-year-old who compete in 3 performances of dancing, T-stage shows and rack drums says she likes various art forms and hopes to make more international friends through the competition.

Liang Jiaqi, contestant, said, "T-stage walking is fun for waist wiggling while rack drums can exercise my body."

Wan Yawei, organizer, said, "The competition acts as a platform for all Asian people to communicate with each other and enhance friendship among various Asian countries"

The Asian Arts Festival is jointly initiated by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and Asian governments. Since it began in 2005, AAF has been held in places including Beijing, Tokyo, Japan and Daegu, South Korea. The final of the 6th AAF is scheduled to open in Beijing in August.
