"Aftershock," a film that depicts the earthquake that devastated north China's city of Tangshan in 1976, is a highly anticipated blockbuster for the summer season.

On Monday, the movie premiere was held in the city. Director Feng Xiaogang and the whole cast watched the film with audience members.

Tangshan Stadium was packed with 15-thousand people. All came to watch the epic that documents the disastrous scene of 34 years ago.

"Aftershock" tells of the devastation that happened in just 23 seconds, and how the city and its people recovered over 32 years. In those 23 seconds, Tangshan was shaken to a huge ruin. A young mother of two is forced to give up her baby girl to save her son. And ever since, that cruel decision changed the whole family's destiny.

Zhang Jingchu, actress, said, "I think it was out of respect for the living, the memory of the decedents, and the promise to the deceased family members that kept the survivors going on with their lives. And that is the power of rebuilding the city. I'm very proud to play a resident of Tangshan in this film."
